Max Underwood AIA is an Architect, and President's Professor at Arizona State University. Building on his experience working with the visionary designers Charles and Ray Eames, and subsequent graduate work at Princeton University, his polymathic scholarship, creative activities and teaching interweave the realities of life with exemplary design and architectural practice. Internationally, Max is held in the highest esteem as a lecturer, Smithsonian study tour leader, scholar, and award-winning teacher's teacher. His numerous honors include three National AIA Awards for Teaching Innovation, and the ACSA National Distinguished Professor Award.

Steve Jobs was once asked, who has been your biggest influence? “Charles and Ray Eames” he replied. From 1941 to 1988 the Office of Charles and Ray Eames redefined "design" as not simply making physical objects, but formulating new ways of seeing, thinking and making which embraced the new information age and the richness of life around us. Charles and Ray firmly believed that the next generation of enlightened clients, builders, designers and architects must be prepared to collaboratively engage a multitude of design venues.
