The Future of Building Materials: Laminated Engineered Bamboo for Exterior, Interior and Structural Applications
AIA Course Number: K2202H
GBCI Course Number: 920025346
1 AIA LU/HSW; 1 GBCI CE Hour; 1 IDCEC CEU/HSW, 1 IIBEC CEH
Course Overview:
While the use and specification of engineered bamboo products have skyrocketed in the past few years, it's hard to keep up with the many uses of this environmentally beneficial material. While bamboo is hard and dense, it is technically a grass, which means it grows extraordinarily fast with few problems. once it is harvested, the pant can grow from the same stalk without needing to be replanted. Thanks to technology, engineering, and innovation, the ways that architects can add a warm and sophisticated aesthetic to their projects is growing. This course shows the many ways that laminated engineered bamboo is the building material of the present and the future.
Learning Objectives:
1. Discuss the nature of laminated engineered bamboo (LEB) and what makes it among the most sustainable building materials on the planet.
2. Identify exterior applications for LEB, including rainscreens, soffits, siding, and composite decking.
3. Describe interior bamboo products and applications for laminated engineered bamboo, including acoustical ceilings, wall paneling, handrails and stair treads.
4. Discuss structural products and applications utilizing LEB including windows & doors, curtain wall and storefront systems, structural beams and posts.
