Tour stops/information:

1) Blue Pagoda 

Project Overview - Bill Waddill, The Bay Sarasota

Attendees will embark upon this guided tour at the Blue Pagoda building, a locally designated historic structure that is also a contributing structure to the nationally designated historic district that serves as the heart of The Bay Sarasota operations. During this project overview and introduction, attendees will gain an understanding of this transformative project's Grassroots and philanthropic Origins resulting in a public private partnership and a community derived master plan. Attendees will review the master plan components and program elements including the recently completed phase one improvements in addition to future phases featuring substantial resiliency design features while creating a cultural and vibrant public park in the City of Sarasota.

2) Oval Park and Pavilion 

Architecture Focus - Sweet Sparkman Architects (Final presenter TBD)

At this stop on the phase 1 tour, attendees will hear from Sweet Sparkman Architects on the architectural design vision and specialized detailing for the Pavilion and Concession building and other park shade structures. Additionally, insights on Cultural District renovations currently in design for future phases of The Bay and their impact on the overall park master plan will be presented.

3) The Beach Deck and Playground 

Entitlements Focus - Philip DiMaria, Kimley-Horn

At the current Western Terminus of the phase 1 improvements sits the renovated Beach. At this location attendees will gain a full perspective of the various park improvements including multiple elements resulting in creative problem solving for Antiquated development codes and challenging permitting processes. Additionally, presenters will discuss the unique approach to financing this Monumental project through the tax incremental financing District created for the project.

4) The Mangrove Walk 

Landscape Focus - Chris Cianfaglione, PLA, ASLA, Kimley-Horn & Bill Waddill, The Bay Sarasota

Users will enjoy an educational walk to learn about the many features along the mangrove bayou including tidal bio swales, treatment train infiltration trenches, extensive tree preservation and relocation, sedimentation removal and water quality improvements, and Native Coastal plantings to identify opportunities for implementation at a variety of scales within their own respective projects.

5) The Nest
