There are various explanations of what Universal Design is, such as Sustainable. A building must be universally designed to be truly sustainable. Also, the difference between ADA and UD is explained. The next section goes into detail as to "why" UD is so important the many purposes of UD. Demographics are shown on not just the large percentages of physical disabilities but the many other types of impairments that need to be considered in all good design. Statistics are provided on the entire aging populations and what goes hand in hand with aging.
