UPCOMING EXHIBIT: ARCHITECTURE IN THE PUBLIC REALM
Architects and Landscape Architects Encouraged to Register and Participate
November 25, 2016, SARASOTA FL. In celebration of public architecture and its importance to our environment, Center for Architecture Sarasota will present an exhibit entitled “Architecture in the Public Realm” to be on view from January 12 to February 25, 2017 in the Center’s Don Chapell Gallery. The exhibit will feature the work of Sarasota/Manatee architects and landscape architects and is designed to recognize and celebrate the profound influence architecture has in how we our experience public space. There will no evaluation or judging involved in the exhibit.
A call for participants is now in process. Entries must be from architecture firms and landscape architecture firms based in the Sarasota/Manatee metropolitan area. However, the entries can be located anywhere in the world. Other requirements include:
The project submission deadline is January 6, 2017. Display boards and models must be delivered to CFAS at 265 South Orange Avenue on January 3, 4, 5, or 6, between the hours of 12:00 PM – 5:00 PM. Digital materials may be uploaded per instructions included with online registration.
About Center for Architecture Sarasota
The Center works to create an informed and engaged community by fostering education and dialogue regarding our built environment and the responsible sustainability of our region. Programs include lectures from prominent national and international design and urban planning experts, community panel discussions, exhibits, tours, films, atelier talks, and K-12 learning programs. The programs are held at the newly-renovated and restored 1960’s building at 265 S. Orange Avenue in downtown Sarasota, now known as McCulloch Pavilion, which exemplifies the CFAS mission. The building was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in August 2016. The organization is also partnering with and housing a University of Florida Graduate School of Architecture program – CityLab Sarasota -- thus providing a formal education aspect to the organization and adding significant value to its service to the community.
